Judiciary Committee |
|
The Judiciary Committee consists of five Justices as well as several Judiciary Aides. The Justices are appointed by the Student Body President and confirmed by the Student Senate. Justices serve for their academic life term. Judiciary Aides are appointed at the discretion of the Chief Justice.
The five Justices comprise the Student Judiciary Committee. Amongst themselves, the Judicial Board elects the following officers: Deputy Chief Justice and Judiciary Recorder. The duties of the Judiciary Committee involve 4 main jurisdictions:
The Chief Justice and the Associate Justices shall nominate the Executive position of Attorney General. The Attorney General may come from within the SGA or from the greater student body. Confirmation of the nomination of Attorney General will be at the discretion of the Chief Justice. The Attorney General may not hold any other position in the SGA during his or her tenure. Attorney General, as the Constitutional enforcer, has the specific authority to note when legislation that has been passed from the Senate and is awaiting to be signed by the President, is unconstitutional as it deters from the provisions within either of the governing documents (Constitution or General Bylaws) of the Monroe Park Campus SGA. The Attorney General must issue a formal opinion within 24-hours of communicating with the President of the Monroe Park Campus SGA, stating the legitimacy of all legislation, including advisory statements, therein signed by the President of the Monroe Park Campus SGA. Though appointed by the Chief Justice, the Attorney General is a member of the Executive Cabinet and is to serve for no more than two consecutive academic years and for as many successive years thereafter. The Chief Justice, as the sole appointer of the Attorney General, shall evaluate his or her performance in concert with the President of the Monroe Park Campus SGA to ensure that the Attorney General complies with the provisions delineated in the SGA General Bylaws and Judicial Guidelines. The Attorney General is held accountable by the heads of both the Executive Branch and the Judiciary Committee and may be removed by either heads as a joint member therein.
